Duties of the Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees carry out orders prescribed for them by the electors and serve as the legislative arm of township government.
In each township, the Board of Trustees consists of one supervisor and four trustees elected at large. They are responsible for approving the bills for payment, budgets, hiring, and adopting policies prepared under the direction of the township supervisor.
The township Supervisor serves as chairperson of the board. He also functions as the Chief Executive Officer overseeing the daily operations of the township. By state statute, the supervisor is also solely responsible for all areas within General Assistance.
The Thornton Township Board of Trustees meets every second and fourth Tuesday, unless otherwise indicated, of each month at 8:00 p.m. in the Clerk’s Office of the township hall.
The mandated Annual Town Meeting is held the second Tuesday in April.
Residents are welcome to attend these open meetings. |
