Community Relations Department
The Community Relations Department is the center for much activity in the township. The department is responsible for informing citizens of all the programs and services available to township residents through press releases, cable announcements, program guides, manuals, reference materials, and other
informational items.
The Community Relations Department works in conjunction with all the departments in the township in preparing promotional items and displays. Events such as local festivals, open houses and special speaking engagements are arranged through this department. 708-596-6040 Ext. 3128
The township’s newsletter, Thornton Township Focus, is written and published quarterly. The newsletter contains a variety of information on upcoming programs and services, pictures of township events, and also features profiles on each of our township elected officials. The newsletter is
distributed township-wide, including local municipal halls and libraries.
Each Spring and Summer, the township participates in local parades in numerous municipalities. Look for our bright and colorful float in your hometown.
The Thornton Township Cemetery, located at 179th Street and Ridge Road in Thornton, is open seasonally from April 1 to October 1. Visits during non-seasonal periods are made by appointment only. Please call the Community Relations Department at Ext. 3128 for appointments and
information.

interviewing. There is no charge for this workshop, however, advance registration is required.
● Youth Job Fair
The Youth Job Fair is an annual spring event held at South Suburban College. Companies are on hand to interview and accept applications from students age 16 to 21. This job fair gives young adults the opportunity to apply for after school and summer employment.
● The Children’s Tree
The Children’s Tree is a joint program that originated between Thornton Township and local stores to help less fortunate children receive gifts for Christmas. For many of the children, these will be the only gifts they receive. Local businesses, schools, and volunteers from the community help to make
this program a success. Monetary donations and gifts are solicited by Community Relations. Application forms for families in need are scheduled in October. For further information call 708-596-6040 Ext. 3129. |
