Thornton Township complies with the Illinois Freedom of information Act, 5 ILCS 140/1, also identified as Public Act 096-0542.

The Executive Director is the Freedom of Information Act Officer (FOI Officer). The Executive Director’s office is located in the Thornton Township Hall located at 333 E. 162nd St., South Holland, IL. 60473

Per the Act, the information request can be submitted in any written format to an employee at the Township. It is highly recommended that information requests be submitted directly to the Executive Director/FOI Officer for timely processing. The Township will provide documents in compliance with the law, in terms of content and timeliness.

By law, Illinois townships must provide three basic functions: general assistance, Assessor’s office which provides local residents with assistance regarding real estate tax information, exemptions and general information about property in Thornton Township, and maintenance of all roads and bridges outside of federal, state, and other local jurisdiction.

Beyond these mandated functions, many townships offer a variety of social services designed to improve life for their township residents, including senior citizen and youth programs, counseling, transportation, food assistance, and cemetery maintenance.
