● Human Relations Commission
The Thornton Township Human Relations Commission (HRC) was established in August 1998. The Commission is made up of community volunteers from different areas of the township ranging in age and ethnic backgrounds. The HRC was established to address the cultural diversity issues that are commonly
experienced in multi-cultural communities across America. The mission of this Commission is to gather and analyze information regarding how we live, work, play, age and worship and do business here in Thornton Township. Using the information gathered by our representatives, we hope to promote suggestions and activities
that make our township harmonious while still being ethnically diverse. We hope to enlighten our residents to open their minds, eyes and hearts to the history and heritage of all those who reside in our township community. Our goal is that through education and familiarization our dream of a united, prosperous and
stable community will be achieved.
The HRC hosts a variety of events that promote unity, build pride, and educate our residents on the value of cultural diversity. A 10 week course designed to enlighten participants to the benefits of living and working in a diverse community is available for residents interested in exploring different
cultures. For more information about upcoming events or workshops, please call 708-596-6040 Ext. 3129.
