Our mission is to address food insecurity in Thornton Township. We believe that township residents facing economic hardship deserve quality, nutritious food, and that all are entitled to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their race, sex, ethnic background, religion, or socio-economic standing.
The Thornton Township Food Assistance Center is located at 15340 Page Avenue in Harvey. We provide curbside pickup of food boxes on Wednesdays from 9 am to 11 am and from 12:00 pm to 5 pm. Additionally, we administer our Senior Food Delivery Program at this location. Thornton Township provides over 1,000 nutritious food boxes each week, providing nearly 50,000 meals annually to those in need.
Many residents receiving food assistance also volunteer at the Food Assistance Center to support other families in need. Through this, they gain essential organizational and transferable employment skills, acquire food safety sanitation licenses, and earn OSHA certifications, all while giving back to the Thornton Township community. For more information on our curbside food box pickup program or the Senior Delivery Program, you can call 708-596-6040, Ext. 3180.
